MARTIN MOORE (Team Manager – BEES)

I believe the role of a squad manager is to provide “Bottom Up Support for World Class Performance” to enable the squad athletes (human and equine), crews and coaches to focus solely on their preparation for and performance on the international field of play, with the objective of achieving a Team GBR endurance medal at WEG Normandy 2014.

What I am bringing to the job are professional management skills, gained from a 40 year career in international business, and 20 years of experience of endurance riding (albeit, at a rather lowly level), crewing, management, stewarding and spectating, including 4 World championships (Jerez de la Frontera, Rome, Dubai and Kentucky) a European championship (Punchestown) and many other national and FEI rides in UK, Ireland, Italy and France (including Florac). Now I am semi-retired I have the time as well as ambition, competence and resource to give to the Team Manager role.

In business I had an “open door” policy – if anyone had anything to say to me they could do so face-to-face on the shop floor, in the laboratory, at the coffee machine, in my office or theirs, or in the pub. I hope EGB members will feel the same.

ANDREA BAKER (Chef D’Equipe – BEWCSPS)

I have been involved in Endurance riding since the late 1980's. Prior to that my interest was jumping and cross country with my Irish Draught.

I was also a keen 'organiser' probably stemming from my day-job as a travel consultant for some of the UK's top Blue Chip Companies.

I got involved in organising everything from local gymkhanas, to riding clubs, and assisted in organising some of the livestock sections at the Surrey County Show.

It was when I brought my first Arab mare that I got increasingly involved in the Endurance scene and as the miles and latterly -kilometers increased and we were still doing ok, I began to consider International.

I rode with the - then Intermediate Squad in 1996 to Belgium and in 1999 won the FEI 3* 160k ride at Cirencester. I travelled as reserve horse and rider to Compiegne World Championships in 2000. In the few years that followed, I rode as an individual in FEI rides in France and Holland, and rode twice for Josami Arabians in South Africa at the Fauresmith Championships and in the Gauteng ride, and for Irene Murphy's endurance horses in Arizona and New Mexico. I have been lucky enough to be offered some really nice horses to ride and train in the UK and have ridden 5 to advanced level and two to international level.

I have organised numerous endurance rides and was co-founder of 'On the Hoof Distance Training Co'. I became involved with the World Class Squad in 2004 and took over as Chef in 2006.

I hold the BHS teaching certificate, Level 3 Endurance coach, Level 3 Coach Educator, Foundation Certificate in Equine Sports Massage. I moved to France in 2010 with my horses and am currently working on my French equitation exams, as well as training ponies and horses for clients.

My philosophy is that you can’t ever know enough and if I had known then, with my first endurance horse, what I now know, how much better we could have been, but then again I will probably say the same thing in 10 years time- about today!

STEVIE MARTIN (Team Manager – BEWCSPS & BEYRS)

I started riding at a very early age when I was at school in the New Forest, but I had to wait until I was in my late 30s before I acquired a horse of my own.

My first encounter with Endurance, or Long Distance Riding as it was then, was in 1989 on a borrowed horse. The ride was on Bodmin Moor and the weather was horrific but I was hooked.

Since then I have ridden, crewed and helped at rides of all levels and in all weathers. I was Chairman of Selectors for three years, spent three years on the EGB Management Committee and am a 4* FEI official.

For the last two years I have been the Team Manager for the British Endurance Development Squad, a job I thoroughly enjoy, and will be going to Belgium with them again in May this year.

I think my main attribute for this job is that I am very self motivated and organised. In fact my entire life seems to have been about organising, as a child getting a band of kids together to go scrumping for apples to organising a staff of 50 when working as the Catering Officer and Location Caterer for the local television studios and London film crews that came down to Devon and Cornwall. In 1976 my husband and I purchased a cottage with some derelict land which we cleared and then ran as a smallholding with cows, sheep, pigs and poultry even making our own butter and grinding our own wheat for our bread. A lovely way of life but hard work.

ANNAMARIA NAGY (Team Vet – BEWCSPS)

After qualifying as a vet in 2004 in Budapest, Hungary, Annamaria completed an internship at Dubai Equine Hospital. With the aim to specialise in equine orthopaedics, Annamaria completed a second equine internship at the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket. She spent some time working in an equine ambulatory practice in Lincolnshire. Annamaria completed a Senior Clinical Training Scholarship (Residency) in Equine Orthopaedics and Diagnostic Imaging at the University of Bristol.

Annamaria’s main clinical interests are lameness diagnosis and diagnostic imaging. She is currently based at the Animal Health Trust, combining clinical work and a PhD in epidemiology of orthopaedic injuries in endurance horses. Annamaria has been involved in clinical research in the field of equine orthopaedics, diagnostic imaging and endurance horses. The results of the studies have been published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at national and international congresses. Annamaria competed in show-jumping as a young rider at National Championships level in Hungary.

She developed a keen interest in endurance horses during her internship in Dubai. She has worked in several countries both as treatment vet and line vet and she is now a 3* FEI vet. Outside of work, Annamaria enjoys hiking, rock climbing, horse riding and travelling.

CHRIS PELL (Team Farrier – BEWCSPS)

I started Endurance Riding in 1990 and competed myself until 1997 when I went to Herefordshire College to start to train to become a farrier.  My main achievement was competing in Switzerland in 1994 on the Young Rider team.  Although I stopped competing I have continued to be involved in the sport crewing for friends and family at all levels.

In 2001 I obtained the Diploma of the Worshipful Company of Farriers (DipWCF) and set up my own business.  I was Team Farrier for the British Young Rider Endurance Team from 2007 to 2009.  I also stood in for the Elite Team Farrier at the European Championships in 2009.

In 2010 I became the Team Farrier for the British Endurance Development Squad and am really enjoying helping riders achieve their aim of progressing to international ride level.

I am currently studying for the Associateship of the Worshipful Company of Farriers qualification.

HELEN BOSTON (Chef D’Equipe – BEYRS)

It is an honour to have been given the opportunity to become Chef d’Equipe for the British Endurance Young Rider Squad, a group of people for whom I have had a lot of admiration since becoming involved with them through my own daughter’s squad involvement a few years ago.

I have been involved with horses since I could walk, going through Pony Club and competing in dressage, showjumping and also eventing, however I always wanted to do “long distance riding” and had to wait until I was in my 30’s to have a chance to do this.  Since getting involved in endurance (in my 30’s!!!), I have competed, crewed, marshalled, helped with the local group on the committee, as well as travelling to the Czech Republic and crewing for the Young Rider Squad at the European Championships.  This was not only thoroughly enjoyable, but a fantastic experience and great insight into the world of international endurance, and I knew then, that I would love to be part of this team again.

My working life has seen me working in all sorts of organisations, however more recently I spent 7 years as a Police Officer unfortunately being medically retired at the end of 2007 following a road traffic accident which left me slightly disabled.  I now work for a project that is part of the Social Services Dept of Newcastle City Council, based in Middlesbrough, which offers help and support to gay and bisexual men.  A total change to pounding the beat but one which brings many of it’s own challenges non-the-less!!

I currently live in the North East, approx 1 hour south of Newcastle on the North Yorkshire border. I have a partner, Stewart, and two children, Amy who is at university and Daniel who is studying towards his A levels which he takes this year.  Having had a few horses over the years we are now down to one, a beautiful part bred Arab mare who I love to bits!!!  We also have a little terrier called Toby.

I am thrilled and excited at being given this opportunity and look forward to working with EGB and the YR Squad over the coming months and through what will hopefully be, a very exciting year.

GEORGINA HIRST (Team Vet – BEYRS)

I graduated from the Royal Veterinary College London in 2007 and then spent a month working for SPANA, a horse charity in Morocco, before undertaking an Internship at the Dubai Equine Hospital in the UAE.   In Dubai my time was spent working with both racehorses and endurance horses,  I also helped out in the treatment tents at the endurance rides.

Since returning to the UK, I have worked in several equine practices and I am now based at Chine House Veterinary Hospital in Leicestershire.

As well as having competed in endurance myself (coming 3rd at the World Young Horse Championships in Compiegne in 2007), I have also crewed for members of my family at International level, including the World Equestrian Games in Aachen, the World Young Rider Championships in Bahrain and the European Championships in Compiegne.   Having seen many aspects of endurance, I realise how important the welfare of the horse is and take great pride in trying to enable the horse to compete and complete at there best.

I was Assistant Team Vet for the Senior Team at the 2009 European Championships in Asissi, Italy and was the Young Rider team vet at the 2010 Young Rider European Championships in Kreuth, Germany.

As well as vetting at many national rides, I am also an FEI 2** vet.    In my spare time I enjoy bringing on young endurance horses and currently have two projects on the go, one of which is a homebred 5 year old, who I have high hopes for.

JAMIE GODDARD (Team Farrier – BEYRS)

My name is Jamie Goddard and I have been around horses ever since I can remember.

School years were a bit of a blur really, all I seem to remember is going hunting with my Grandad at weekends.   However, after what seemed an eternity, I finally left school to enrol with Warwickshire College in order to embark on the long journey to realize my ambition of becoming a farrier.
Having gained my qualification, I started an apprenticeship with Peter Baker AWCF – one of the country’s most respected farriers.   Finally I set up my own business, Goddard Farrier Services, in 2001, and have progressively built up a substantial client base within the equestrian community.

Professionally, one of my many career highlights was to shoe this year’s Badminton Winner on behalf of a client and friend Paul Tapner – personally, I can be found out hunting with the Old Berks during the winter months and eventing throughout the summer.

I am always seeking new challenges and am thankful to Endurance GB for appointing me as farrier to the Young Riders – I look forward to meeting and working with you all soon.

LEE CLARK (Team Physio – BEWCSPS & BEYRS)

I qualified in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science Honours Degree in Physiotherapy from the School of Health at the University of Teesside.  I initially worked in the NHS for 2 years whilst training to treat animals. Since qualifying as an Animal Physiotherapist in 1999 I have tried to devote equal time between treating Horses and people.

Over the years I have worked as an Occupational Physiotherapist within some of the largest companies in the north-east and I was part of the medical team involved in running the most intensive Spinal Rehabilitation Programme in the country.  Then, eight years ago I opened a Private Physiotherapy clinic, which is now situated within Darlington Football Club, specialising in the treatment of spinal pain and sports injuries.

My caseload in the clinic mainly consists of treating the riders of the horses that I work with.  As I assess more horses and their riders together, it is interesting to see how the riders’ physical condition can substantially affect the horse.  Any asymmetry, weakness or imbalance of the rider can lead to pain and performance problems in the horse.

As well as the acute injury aspect of treating horses and riders, my wife and I spend a lot of time rehabilitating horses with more serious problems such as Tendon and Ligament Injuries. This involves intensive daily treatment at our Equine Physiotherapy Clinic in Darlington.  Here we combine modern technology with techniques solidly proven to assist in soft tissue healing.

However “prevention is better than cure”, so I also like to work with clients preparing them and their horse physically throughout the year. This helps to prevent injuries and maximize their potential so that they can perform to the best of their ability during competitions.

On a more personal note, I began horse riding about 12 years ago, and throughout the years have participated in most disciplines at a low level as unfortunately work always seemed to get in the way. I am a keen amateur athlete regularly fell running with my two Alaskan Malamute dogs and enjoy the odd Triathlon when I get a rare weekend off.
