Endurance GB and the BEF Equality and Safeguarding Policy

The protection of children, young people and vulnerable adults whilst participating in any sport is of the highest importance as they should be able to take part in a fun, safe environment and be protected from harm.

The BEF, as the umbrella body for the equestrian industry has implemented a generic Equality and Safeguarding policy. This implementation will also begin to encourage the production of good practice codes across the industry and will also enable the BEF to gain Sport England funding.

A steering committee, including a representative from all member bodies, has been established in order to implement these policies and produce a cross industry support network.

As a member body of the BEF, the Lead Welfare Officer represents Endurance GB on the steering committee. This representative attends the quarterly meetings and is therefore able to share new developments and initiatives with members of EGB.

Endurance GB has established a network of group welfare officers with whom information can be shared and thereby passed down to local committees and members.

The knowledge and spread of good practice is vitally important. The BEF provides an information pack for all group welfare officers which includes templates for codes of conduct, forms, a sample welfare plan and all the necessary policies.

The BEF has developed an Equestrian Safeguarding Course, this has been approved by the Child Protection in Sport Unit and will be available for members/volunteers to attend from July 1st 2011 onwards.

Since the AGM of 2007, Endurance GB has accepted and abides by the BEF Child Protection Policy
